Richard Lee Place, 61, of Rudy passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, in Fort Smith. He was born Feb. 28, 1956, in Fort Eustis, Va. He worked for Elite Pest Control in Fort Smith and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Earl Place.

He is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Michelle Moses of the home; a daughter, Crystal Prince of Norman, Okla.; a son, Payton Place of Lavaca; his mother, Irene Harrington of Lavaca; four sisters, Debra Watts of Jacksonville, Fla., Teresa Terry of Lavaca and Donna Place and Shawn Ridenour, both of Fort Smith; six grandchildren, Cody Prince, Mia Place, Caitlin Prince, Dixie Place, Connor Prince and Reese Place; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside service was June 2 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with military honors under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers were Payton Place, Cody Prince, Mike Barber, JR Terry, Brad Atwell and Billy Harris. Honorary pallbearers were Chad Prince, Connor Prince, Pat Henry and Bob Atwell.
