Steve Burks, 76, of Alma passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, in Fort Smith. He was born Feb. 23, 1941, in New London, Conn., to the late Vesper and Freeda Burks. He was a retired deputy for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, an avid gun collector, car enthusiast and a life member of the NRA. He was a member of the Church of Christ and loved playing the guitar, piano and drums.

He is survived by his wife, Nelda of the home; a daughter, Cathy Jo Burks of Miami, Fla.; a son, Jeff Burks and wife Jennifer of Fort Smith; two brothers, James “J.R.” Burks of San Diego and David Burks of Reno, Nev.; and two grandchildren, Savannah and Samuel Burks.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, past and present.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.Tuesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren.
