Fay M. Skerbitz, 81, of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at a local hospital. She was a former employee of Gerber, retired nursery director at St. Paul’s Methodist Church of Fort Smith and retired home health-care provider. She loved sewing, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with family. She attended Bethel Assembly of God Church and was preceded in death by her husband, James Skerbitz; her parents, Floyd and Mable Flieger; her son, David Skerbitz; her brother, Delbert Flieger; and two grandsons, Adam Pettit and Johnathan Jergins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 2, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Ocker Funeral Homes in Van Buren.
She is survived by six daughters, Diane Barnes of Vernal, Utah, Cheryl Etzkorn of Roland, Becca Duvall of Oklahoma City, Grace Kastel of Vernal, Utah, Priscilla (Eric) Overstreet of Fort Smith and Beth (Alan) Lockhart of Kansas, Okla.; four sons, James (Lora) Skerbitz of Damascus, Ore., Tim (Judy) Skerbitz of Fort Smith, Jon (Shaun) Skerbitz of Jasper, Ind., and Jason Skerbitz of Fort Smith: two sisters, Betty Lou Swearingen of Waterford, Calif., and GG (Al) Blackwell of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Jack Flieger, Oakdale, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Betty Skerbitz of Tulsa: 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
