A Crawford County Marine received the Purple Heart at a ceremony held Aug. 1 in Arizona for wounds he endured serving in Afghanistan.
Lance Cpl. Cole Collums of Mountainburg received the award after he was injured defending against a Taliban attack at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan Sept. 14, 2012. Collums served as an aviation electronics technician from Marine Attack Squadron 211, according to a news release from the Defense Video and Imagery Distribution System.
Lt. Col. Cory Simmons, the commanding officer of VMA-211, gave Collums the award at a ceremony held at the squadron hangar of the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz.
