A fundraiser for the Alma Airedale Dazzlers Dance Team will feature a performance from the Ozark Mountain Hoe-Down show at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Alma Performing Arts Center.

Owners of the Hoe-Down show, Randall and Dawayne George perform classic country and gospel music, while characters such as P. Nutt, Ponytail and Girl provide comedy relief.

"It’s comedy, it’s singing, it’s a family friendly event," said Bridgett Shelton, a member of the Dazzler Parent Association that helps organize fundraising events for the team.

Tickets for the show are $5 for students and $10 for adults if purchased early. All tickets bought at the door are $10, Shelton said.

About 85 percent of the proceeds from ticket sales will help pay for the dance team’s trip to nationals if they place at state, Shelton said. A 2012 performance by the Dazzlers can be seen here on YouTube.

Alma’s dance team won the 5A classification state dance championship in 2012, and though they were able to place 24 in the nation at nationals, Shelton said they were hard-pressed to raise money for the trip because of time constraints.

This year the DPA, which involves parents and team members working together, are starting early on fundraising, Shelton said.

"Just like everywhere, there have been budget cuts so we have to raise a lot more money," Shelton said. "If we win state again, this will help pay for the kids to go to nationals."

Another 15 of proceeds will go to the Alma PAC for its scholarship fund, she said.

"I’m trying to teach these kids to give back to their community" because of all of those that help the dance team, Shelton said. All sponsors will receive VIP tickets to the show, and two tickets to the show in Eureka Springs, she said.

Shelton will be selling tickets today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Square Gathering festival in Ozark, and tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Walmart in Ozark. Tickets also can be purchesed by calling Shelton at (479) 276-5462.
