The value of building permits issued in Van Buren in 2013 mirrored that of the previous year’s, according to the building inspector’s office.

Permits for new single-family homes totaled 43 with a value of $6,002,360 in 2013, compared to 40 with a value of $5,929,796 in 2012.

Seven permits for new commercial construction were issued last year with a value of $2,246,872 compared to nine for $2,173,093 in 2012.

Not included are permits for duplexes, multi-family, additions or remodel permits, according to building inspector David Martin.

Building slowed in 2008 following more than a decade of rapid growth, according to information released by Martin.

In 2008, 15 permits for new commercial totaled $10,971,000 and 56 permits for single-family homes was $9,942,200.

Ten commercial permits for $2,858,844 and 52 for homes for $7,010,975 were issued in 2010 and five for commercial totaling $1,495,636 and 59 for homes totaling $8,748,882 in 2011.
