Registration is open for the Wonderful World of Art Fizz Boom Art camps that will be held throughout Crawford County in June and July.

Van Buren’s Center for Art and Education is working with the Crawford County Library System to host the art camps at local libraries this summer for kids ages 6-14.

This year the art camps are taking a "scientific approach to creativity" with the theme Fizz, Boom, Art in conjunction with the Fizz, Boom, Read: 2014 Collaborative Summer Library Program.

Children will explore entomology, botany, zoology and two days of chemistry as they discover how science and art compliment each other. The studio art class themes are designed to teach children how to express themselves confidently and creatively.

Every day kids will get the chance to see experiments and enjoy a book during snack time. A parent show will be held the last day of camp.

All camps are held Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-noon, and refreshments will be provided. There is limited availability, so early registration is encouraged.

Cost for each week-long camp is $20 per child, but financial assistance is available. Contact the Van Buren Center for Art and Education at (479) 474-7767 for more information. To register go to

Crawford County Library System’s summer reading program Fizz, Boom, Read will begin Saturday with a "mad scientists" kick off party at the Van Buren Public Library.

Kids can earn free books and prizes for reading all through the summer while they learn about science. Contact the library system at (479) 471-3226 for information on related events.
