Fort Smith police are investigating a gunpoint robbery Thursday at a convenience store in the north part of town.

According to the incident report, around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, an employee at Park Mini Mart, 3601 Park Ave., said a black man with a hoodie and face cover entered the store, pointed a handgun at her and told her to give him the money in the register. He then walked behind the counter and continued to demand money.

The employee opened the cash register and the man grabbed the money and left the store, the report states. The suspect is believed to have taken $300 in the incident, the report states.

The employee walked outside while on the phone with 911 and saw the man across the street. She said he took off running toward North Greenwood Avenue when he saw her, the report states.
