Area home chefs and restaurant cooks will be able to find out who is the best in South Logan County two weeks from today in the Taste of South Logan County.
Bringing a main dish, side dish or a dessert to the Jeral Hampton Meeting Place for the July 25 event will enter those seeking to be recognized as the best in the area. Dishes from home chefs should be large enough to feed 25 and those from local eateries should be able to feed up to 40.
The July 25 Taste will be the third for the event since its relaunch in 2016, following a hiatus.
The first year for the restart saw more than 150 guests pay the $10 per plate fee and last year’s event drew somewhere between 100 and 150 as well.
In it’s heyday, prior to being scheduled during the dead period for high school athletes, which ended on Sunday this year, the event drew as many as 200 people in its inaugural year of 2007 and 175 in other years.
The event is a fundraiser for the Booneville Development Corporation/South Logan County Chamber of Commerce with proceeds going to fund other events including paying for speakers for the organization’s annual banquet.
Diners at last year’s event selected Brenda Brewer’s bacon dressed potatoes as the best main dish, Rosezanna Webster’s layered salad as the best side dish, and Tiffany Rodatz’s banana pudding as the best dessert.
