Events to honor veterans are scheduled throughout Crawford County this week in honor of Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Van Buren will celebrate its military veterans with a Main Street parade at 6:30 p.m. Thursday through historic downtown. This is the 16th year for the parade.
Line up is at 5:45 in front of the Crawford County Courthouse, and the parade will travel east on Main Street to the First Baptist Church parking lot.
Area schools, churches, civic groups and politicians will take part in the parade.
Volunteers from Arvest Bank will be grilling burgers and hot dogs for veterans and their families in the Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 5 p.m.
Thomas is looking for volunteers to help with crowd traffic and manning parade barricades, he said.

Area schools also are holding events for veterans this week.
Alma Middle School is holding an assembly Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at the Alma Performing Arts Center, with a complimentary breakfast for veterans at 8:30 a.m.
Taking part in the AMS event will be the Alma High School choir, the school band and the AMS Beta Club.
Cedarville School District will host its second Veterans Day Celebration on Nov. 10 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Veterans will be honored and then served a free lunch at 11 a.m.
This year the Cedarville event will have several special guests, including Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin, Rep. Steve Womack, State Rep. Charlene Fite and Ken Griffin, a military/veterans affairs adviser with the governor’s office.
Mountainburg Elementary School will have a complimentary breakfast for veterans on Friday at 8 a.m., with an assembly to honor veterans held at 8:30 a.m.
Mountainburg’s high school and middle school will have a combined assembly for veterans on Friday at noon.
Mulberry High School will hold an assembly at the C.B. Cotton Havener gymnasium beginning at 10:45, followed by a complimentary lunch for area veterans and their spouses.
Multiple Van Buren schools will host Veterans Day assemblies throughout the week.
Van Buren High School will hold its Veterans Day assembly on Friday beginning at 8:45 a.m. Rena Elementary School, Northridge Middle School and VBHS Freshman Academy will hold their events on Friday, as well.
King Elementary School will start its A Salute to Veterans event, hosted by its student council, with a complimentary breakfast for veterans at 7:45 a.m. The event is set for Friday.
City Heights Elementary School has its Veterans Day event scheduled for Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
