Gary Deffenbaugh has announced his run for a fifth term for District 79 state representative. Deffenbaugh’s first term began in 2011. His district now encompasses all of Van Buren’s city limits.
Deffenbaugh served on the judiciary committee; the aging, youth and military affairs committee and the retirement committee his first term. Since then, he has worked on the education committee for three terms and the city, county and local affairs committee for two terms. Also, Deffenbaugh has spent three terms on the Arkansas Legislative Council. Each year that he has been in the legislature, he has been selected to serve on the retirement committee.
Deffenbaugh said he feels that he has served the community well and will continue to do so. He said he believes that he is tuned in to the pulse of the people and votes accordingly.
“I have been blessed immensely by the great opportunity to serve my hometown in the legislature,” Deffenbaugh said. “I will continue to represent the patrons of Van Buren honestly and fairly. My conservative values will continue to be upheld. Thank you for your support.”
Deffenbaugh has been married to the former Carolyn Yeager for 47 years. They have a daughter, April, who is married to Howard Simmons, and a son, Matthew. Rounding out their family are five grandchildren, Jake, who is married to the former Madason Wagner; Holly, Emma, Nevaeh and Mattie.
The Deffenbaughs attend First Baptist Church in Van Buren, where they both serve as teachers, and he is a deacon.
