A public dedication for a new outdoor pavilion at Robert Jack VFW Post 1322 in Van Buren is set for Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
Area veterans will come together to dedicate the new pavilion, which was built in May, said Matthew Hicks, Robert Jack VFW Post 1322 quartermaster.
“The pavilion is basically to provide us an outdoor activity setting that’s still on site,” Hicks said.
Post members have used the pavilion during flag retirement ceremonies and it can be rented out for public use, as can the post building, Hicks said.
Ashley A. Little, the Department of Arkansas Veterans of Foreign Wars state commander, will attend the dedication with other area officials, Hicks said.
Other special dedication events are being kept a secret, Hicks said.
“There will be a surprise during the dedication, but you’ll have to come to find out what it is,” Hicks said. “We want the public to attend.”
Plans for the pavilion have been in the works for several years, since the post building expansion and remodel in 2013, Hicks said.
“We poured the concrete in 2013 in hopes of getting the pavilion built, and we finally got it built this year,” Hicks said.
While the structure is complete, post members continue to raise money and take donations to help put siding on the pavilion and connect electricity so it can be used for night events, Hicks said.
