Area residents and businesses can get their yards “flagged and flocked” to raise money for the Robert Jack VFW Post 1322.
As part of an effort to raise money to help area veterans and their families, Robert Jack VFW Post 1322 Auxiliary members are offering to place an installation of flamingo yard ornaments and American flags in area yards for a $25 donation.
Auxiliary members move the installation every 24 to 48 hours, depending on requests, said auxiliary secretary Susan Hicks.
Hicks and auxiliary president Holly Baker came up with the idea as a way to raise money for the VFW’s Christmas contributions to local veterans and their families, Hicks said.
“What the goal is, is we’re planning on trying to feed 100 families and buy toys for kids for Christmas,” Hicks said. “It’s a lofty goal.”
VFW provided Christmas meals and toys to about 17 families last year.
Getting a yard “Flamingo Flagged and Flocked” shows patriotism, support for the VFW and helps raise money for veterans for Christmas, Hicks said.
Asked about the meaning behind the use of flamingos, Hicks said, “They’re just cute.”
Those donating to have the installation moved can have it installed anywhere of their choosing, Hicks said.
To donate and move the installation, text Hicks on the “flamingo hotline” at (479) 719-3824.
As of Monday morning, about 18 locations had been “flagged and flocked,” Hicks said.
