Thursday’s Living Local in downtown Van Buren will include hot rod night from 5 to 8 p.m.
Living Local is an initiative designed to invite more people to partake in the businesses on Main Street in downtown Van Buren. Featuring festival-style events, Living Local includes shopping, entertainment, food and music.
It is a joint venture of The Old Town Merchants Association, Van Buren Original and Van Buren Advertising and Promotion Commission.
“Join us this Thursday and stroll the streets, enjoy live music, have dinner and take a ride on the trolley or horse and buggy,” said Alan Foliart, president of TOTMA. “Stop in the stores to receive your 2017 passport, get your signatures and register for chances to win Main Street dollars that are good in all the participating merchants.”
Elizabeth Nelson will performing in the 800 block of Main Street and Chapters on Main will host a book signing by Matt Cole and his daughter, Britt Cole. Matt is the author of “Sight and Sound.” Britt wrote “Searching.”
Buggy rides will originate at Attic Treasures in the 600 block.
Hot rod night will kick off Saturday’s Cruisin’ on Main event, Foliart pointed out. Cruisin’ on Main will be sponsored by TOTMA, Generations Bank and Jim Grizzle Tire.
Registration will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday for the Show N Shine from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and burn-out competition at 6 p.m. The cruise will begin at 7 p.m.
Awards in three categories will be presented on Stage 9 in Blanche Moore Memorial Park before a concert at 7:30 p.m.
Living local participating merchants are Polish Pottery, Farmers Insurance - Renee Barrow, The Soap Factory, Chapters on Main and Retirement Planners/Kim Pierson in the 800 block, Mozart Studios, Willy Nilly, Cinders and Smoke, Main Street Interiors and Marcia Cooksey Interiors in the 700 block, Attic Treasures, Metro Gallery, Boom-a-rang Diner, Western Arkansas Legacy of Fine Arts, The Blissful Pup, Firefly Boutique and Gifts and Natural Treasures in the 600 block and High Society, Country Junkie and Creative Furnishings by Jean in the 500 block.
