United Way of Fort Smith Area will host its second annual Touch-A-Truck on Wednesday, June 14, at Van Buren High School.

The free child safety and wellness event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mitzy Little, marketing director for United Way, said the event will provide children of all ages with the opportunity to see, touch and explore life-size vehicles and interact with community support leaders like police officers, firemen, construction workers and military personnel.

“Vehicles you can expect to see include construction and farm equipment, safety and transportation vehicles, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, Life Flight helicopter and military vehicles,” Little said. “The Army National Guard Recruitment and Retention will provide an obstacle course and CASS Job Corp will have their construction equipment simulator.”

In addition to equipment and vehicles, local businesses will provide hot dogs, chips, drinks and popsicles.

“The event also serves an educational value on top of being great entertainment for the kids,” Little said. “There will be several tables set up with literature available on a wide variety of child safety and wellness topics.”

The Van Buren Police Department will provide car seat safety information, Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House will provide sun safety tips and Step Up, Speak Out, Hamilton House and the Morgan Nick Foundation will provide child safety information.

“Touch-A-Truck is exclusively designed with children in mind, although, big kids enjoy the experience just as much,” Little said “It’s an event that gives kids an opportunity to see trucks and vehicles up close and from the inside; something they might not otherwise ever have the chance to do. We encourage parents, Boys and Girls Clubs, preschool programs, Mother’s Day Out groups, daycares, church groups, to bring their children out for a great day of fun and learning.”
