Cedarville Board of Education members will be looking to fill an open position on the board during a special meeting Tuesday, May 2.

Those interested in filling the open seat or wishing to provide input are being asked to contact a current board member or the school district administration office at (479) 474-7220, said Superintendent Dr. Kerry Schneider.

“They wanted to give people a little bit of time to determine if they are interested, and get a comprehensive list of people interested so they can make an informed decision,” Schneider said.

Board members will appoint a new member to fill the seat at the May 2 meeting, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. The appointee will serve until school board elections on Sept. 19.

Phillip Fears vacated the seat after moving out of the district, Schneider said. His five-year term ends in September.

In September, the appointee and anyone else interested in the seat will be able to run as a candidate to fill the next term.

Candidates for school board appointment must reside in the school district and be a registered voter.

Those looking to run in the 2017 school board election must, in addition, have a petition with at least 20 signatures from residents from within the school district.

Filing dates for the 2017 school board elections have not yet been set by the Secretary of State’s Office. For more information on filing, contact the school district administration office or the Crawford County clerk.
