Main Street Interiors in historic downtown Van Buren features furniture made by Crawford County craftsmen.
The business at 708 Main St. is owned by Wes and Hope Turner and is one of 22 shops participating in Living Local, an initiative designed to invite more people to partake in the businesses on Main Street in downtown Van Buren. Featuring festival-style events, Living Local includes shopping, entertainment, food and music from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
It is a joint venture of TOTMA, Van Buren Original and Van Buren Advertising and Promotion Commission.
Main Street Interiors’ frames, table and chairs are made by Jimmy Reinschmiedt who has more than 50 years experience. The shop’s upholsterer is Bert Kenner with more than 20 years experience and draperies are made by Niki Nelson with more than 40 years of experience.
“It has been tempting to follow the crowd and buy our products from across the border, or even venture overseas,” Wes Turner said.
He said Main Street Interiors is very proud its products are made by local craftsmen and craftswomen.
“We understand that there is a lot to consider when purchasing furniture or draperies for your home, but finding local people who will stand behind their work is a very important one,” Turner said.
Main Street Interiors also offers its upholstery shop “to bring to life that special piece of furniture or family treasure you may want to recover,” Turner said.
“Hope Turner would be happy to help pick out that special fabric available at the store,” Wes Turner said. “From chairs, sofas, loveseats, ottomans, custom dining and chairs, headboards to full beds, we can make it happen.”
He said Main Street Interior strives to bring that unique piece to a home.
“Main Street Interiors also takes pride in featuring local artists work such as Roy Radney’s cedar carvings, headboards, full beds, tables and wall carvings which would be perfect in your cabin or lodge,” he said. “Whether it is rugs, lamps, candle sticks, art work, mirrors or anything in between, we have the product you cannot find anywhere else.”
