Sisters honored for service

St. Scholastica Monastery recently celebrated Sister Agatha Knittig, 96, for her 75 years of service to the monastery and Sister Kimberly Prohaska for her 25 years of service.

Sister Agatha entered St. Scholastica in the fall of 1940 and has taught in many parochial schools in Arkansas and Missouri. Now retired, Sister Agatha enjoys visiting local nursing homes in Arkoma and Fort Smith.

Sister Kimberly chose to enter St. Scholastica in 1990 and serves as sub-prioress of the monastery, vocation director and house coordinator, and looks forward to 25 more years with the community.

Church to host health screenings

The 12th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church of Oklahoma and Arkansas will host a series of health screenings next week at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 S. Seventh St. No appointments are required; walk-ins are welcome. Free mammograms will be available from 1-5 p.m. Monday in Exhibit Hall A-1; a blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in Exhibit Hall A-2; and blood-pressure screenings and the American heart Association's "Check Change Control" program will be offered from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday in Exhibit Hall MR-2.

Harvestime quilt show slated

The Blackgum Harvestime Church Sewing Sisters will host its 10th annual Quilts of Past and Present quilt show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 27 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 28 at the church, 451558 East 980 Road, or eight miles north of Interstate 40 on Oklahoma 82, in Vian. The event will include display quilts, a vendor mall, boutique, tea room, door prizes and demonstrations. An Accuquilt Go! baby fabric cutter and other accessories donated by B-Sew-Inn will be given away July 28.

Women's conference slated

Angela Gazaway Ministries will host the "2018 Fight Like a Sistah" women's conference at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 and at 10 a.m. at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 at Christ for the World, 4401 Windsor Dr. in Fort Smith.
