Community Thanksgiving slated
Arkoma's sixth annual Citywide Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at Arkoma Assembly of God, 205 Sumner Ave. in Arkoma. The church will provide the music and a nursery.
Hearts of Gold events planned
Project Compassion is collecting new, unwrapped gifts and monetary donations to purchase gifts for area nursing home residents this holiday season through Dec. 19. There will be two kick-off events for the Hearts of Gold collection drive from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 5401 Free Ferry Road in Fort Smith, and from 5:30-7 p.m. Dec. 7 at Hampton Inn-Van Buren, 1916 N. Sixth St. in Van Buren.
Items needed include sweatshirts and sweatpants, nightgowns, pajama sets, lounge pants, plain t-shirts and house shoes. Sixes range from medium to 5X. Drop off locations include the Project Compassion office, 1205 S. Albert Pike, Room 114; all Simmons Bank locations and Hampton Inn-Van Buren.

Museum to host Evening in the Past
The United States Marshals Museum will host its third annual An Evening in the Past holiday event from 6:30-9 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Bonneville House, 318 N. Seventh St. in Fort Smith. This year's event will feature both the younger and older Thomas Jeffersons from Colonial Williamsburg visiting with guests about how the third president’s views evolved over his career. There also will be 18th century French inspired entertainment, food and cocktails. Tickets are $75 and are available through eventbrite.com.

Planning underway for Christmas Honors
The ninth annual Christmas Honors program is gearing up for its assembly workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 15 in Hall C at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 S. Seventh St., and wreath distribution Dec. 16. Wreath pickup and storage will take place Jan. 8.
