The ninth annual Bargains Galore on 64 will take place on Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 7-9.
The event consists of 160 miles of yard sales, antiques, collectibles and flea markets along U.S. 64 from Fort Smith to Beebe and takes place the second weekend of August each year.
Linda Hiles, coordinating director of Bargains Galore, said the event is patterned after the U.S. 127 Corridor event that stretches from Kentucky to Alabama, the self-described "world's longest outdoor sale."
"If you haven't been out looking at all the antiques, collectibles and just great buys, you have missed 160 miles of yard sales," Hiles said. "Shop until you drop along Highway 64, which parallels Interstate 40."
Bargains Galore offers a great opportunity for commercial vendors, non-profit groups, clubs, schools, churches, and civic organizations to promote their products or service. "There are no limitations on what vendors may market, though we particularly encourage antiques and collectibles," Hiles said.
Designated a "Travel Treasure" by Southern Traveler magazine, she said the event draws family vacationers and dealers, buyers and sellers alike, who "treasure" not only great bargains along Highway 64 but also the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful vistas that prevail.
"We have grown tremendously each year, thanks to the great support of the various chambers of commerce and other tourist promotion agencies throughout the River Valley area," Hiles said.
Food vendors must comply with Arkansas health regulations.
"Although we encourage local merchants and property owners to allow vendors to set up on their property along the route, permission should still be acquired," Hiles said. "Put out Yellow sale signs to advertise your participation in Bargains Galore on 64 and be prepared to be busy for three full days."
Contributing cities include Alma, Altus, Beebe, Clarksville, Fort Smith, Morrilton, Ozark, Russellville, Van Buren and Vilonia.
Other participing cities include Atkins, Blackwell, Coal Hill, Dyer, El Paso, Hartman, Knoxville, Lamar, London, Minifee, Mulberry, Plummerville and Pottsville.
