Boozman to tour downtown

U.S. Rep. John Boozman of Rogers will conduct a walking tour of historic Main Street in downtown Van Buren on Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon.

The congressman will meet with business owners to discuss the economy and its impact on small businesses. The media is invited to attend this unique tour.

"Historic Main Street preserves the past of Van Buren while offering today's great shopping," Boozman said. "Restaurants, arts and antiques line the street that attracts tourists. With gasoline prices skyrocketing more than 72 percent since January 2007, fewer Americans are taking vacations and it's affecting businesses."

Boozman said he will use this walking tour to see and hear the influence of rising fuel costs to small businesses in Van Buren.

Following the walking tour, the Congressman will hold an open office for 3rd District residents. This event will be held at the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, 510 Main St., from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Boozman encourages the public to attend to receive assistance with personal matters involving the federal government or share thoughts and concerns about legislative issues.

" looking in the Arkansas TOURIST booklet it states that this is Aug 13-15, 2009. Your web sight says Aug 7-9. (Editor's Note: The story is from 2008, this year's (2009) event will be held on Aug. 13-15.) "
