Drug sweep successful

Seven arrested in an ongoing drug sweep appeared in Crawford County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

More suspects are expected to be scheduled for Dec. 27 court dates, according to Prosecuting Attorney Marc McCune.

Special Agent Doug McAllister of the Arkansas State Police said investigators are turning over new leads as they locate and arrest narcotics dealers.

About 20 men and women and at least five juveniles have been arrested in the drug sweep led by the Alma Police Department, ASP and 21st Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney's Office with assistance from the Crawford County Sheriff's Department and 21st Judicial District Drug Task Force.

Appearing before Circuit Judge Gary R. Cottrell on Wednesday were:

  • Virginia Baker, 50, of Fort Smith, who pleaded not guilty to delivery of a controlled substance after the public defender's office was appointed to represent her. Baker is accused of selling 50 oxcycontin pills for $150 on Oct. 5.

  • Paul Ford, 32, of Mulberry, who pleaded not guilty to three counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Ford allegedly sold 10 morphine pills for $100 on Aug. 22, nine Darvon pills for $20 on Sept. 25 and one ounce of marijuana on Sept. 25. The public defender's office represents Ford.

  • Daniel Frazier, 25, of Alma pleaded not guilty to four counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Frazier is accused of selling marijuana in a controlled buy on three occasions and selling methamphetamine once. Cottrell revoked a reporting bond on Frazier, who was sentenced to 120 days at a regional correctional facility on Jan. 17. The public defender's office represents Frazier.

  • Bond was set at $2,500 for Walker Hagar, 37, of Van Buren after Cottrell ruled there was enough evidence to hold Hagar on one count of delivery of a controlled substance. Hagar allegedly sold 40 Darvocet pills for $80 for Oct. 19. He is expected to be arraigned Dec. 27.

  • Bond was set at $7,500 for Brandie Prather, 20, of Van Buren after Cottrell ruled there was enough evidence to hold Prather on three counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Prather is accused of selling two grams of meth for $200 on April 21 and June 27 and one-eight ounce of meth for $275 on June 29.

  • Mickie Ramsey, 34, of Alma pleaded not guilty to delivery of marijuana and conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine after the public defender's office was appointed to represent her. Ramsey is charged with selling one-eighth ounce of meth for $280 for June 2. She also is charged in the sale of one-fourth ounce of marijuana for $25 on April 19. Ramsey also resisted a petition to revoke a suspended sentence she received on June 9, 2005, for aggravated assault, alleging she owes $1,190 in restitution, fines and court costs.

  • James Ritchie, 28, of Alma pleaded not guilty to delivery of methamphetamine. Ritchie is accused of selling 1.4 grams of meth for $125 on Oct. 2. Cottrell also revoked a reporting bond for a sentence Ritchie received after being found guilty of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia on Aug. 4. The public defender's office also was appointed to represent Ritchie.

Others who are been arrested include Justin Hale, 21, Cassandra Crawford, 41, Harold Capek, 24, Sandy Johnson, 34, Kelly Tucker, 24, Tasha Dodson, 25, and Danny Hale, 43, all of Alma; Katherine Robinson, 48, of Fort Smith; Henry Hay, 42, of Mountainburg; Kavan Oldham, 25, of Rudy; and Xavier Haynes, 30, of Muldrow.

The arrests are the result of a 10-month investigation, McAllister said.

" Well it looks like the Moore family got whats coming to them. Hopefully they will lock up the drug dealers for a long time. Maybe with him being in prison they can put him to work and his daughter finally get the child support she is entitled to! "
